Jax turns 2!

Today, our youngest turned 2...it's bittersweet. He is growing up so fast. As previous posted (here), Jax is sick so we worked hard to help him enjoy today. The virus is contagious, so the family members that were coming to town (Grandma, Cousin Jordan, Uncle Jason, & Cousin Meagan) couldn't come to help us celebrate. We partied as hard as we could...

WE LOVE YOU JAX, WHOLE BUNCHES!

Jax woke up feeling much better than he had been doing, so we started his "party" at 8:00am while he was feeling well. We didn't know how long it would last.

Birthday donuts:

Jeff and I got him a teeter-totter, so we let him play with it in the garage, where Jeff had put it together last night. At this point, we are partying in pajamas!
Yep, no joke, birthday cake before lunch. Again, we didn't know if he was going to crash with fever soon...we partied when we could...to make him as happy as possible.

Happy Birthday Sweet Baby Boy!
Blow them out
Spitting virus all over the cake - we ate off the backside. :)
Mmm good....

Jax was terrified of the temp tattoos. Diego had to go on his foot when he wasn't watching.
Presents for lunch!

Thank you Hudson ("TaaToo Hudsee")
Thank you Noah ("TaaToo Bubba")
Putting the new toys together
"MINE!"
(not sure if this new "mine" is from not feeling well or he is just becoming a typical 2 year old)

I don't think this is safe, proper use of this new toy, but it was cute.
The above and below pictures are why our child received a helmet for his birthday.
(Disclaimer - Jax does not own the below skateboard and is being closely monitored.)
Thank you Grandma & Grandpa Ruen for the wagon! Jax loved it!!

After taking the afternoon easy (and taking naps - finally!), we came back out for a couple more minutes of fun on the teeter-totter. Jax was doing much better this evening. We are hoping tonight goes well!

Delay in Celebration

Yesterday morning, Jax woke up super cranky. I thought nothing about it, but maybe allergies were bothering him like they are me. He required constant holding mid-morning on and then I started thinking....great, he is getting sick just in time for his birthday. By lunchtime, I was calling the doctors office as I could tell he was quickly going downhill. When leaving our house for the doctor's office he had a fever of 101 and zero energy. Earlier he put his finger in his right ear and said "hurt", so I figured he had his first ear infection. He was miserable.

Doctor said he had a ear infection plus a virus. He asked about several symptoms (coughing, vomiting, etc.) which I was able to reply "no" to. Jax's breathing was very fast and the doctor said that his fever would probably spike at night. He was breathing fast like he was already experiencing a very high fever so the doctor said the inside of his body was telling us what the outside wasn't showing yet...higher fever to come. He called in an antibiotic for the ear infection.

Within 30 minutes of being home, Jax coughed, had diarrhea, and vomited his antibiotic right back up. All of the things I had just told the doctor he wasn't doing. I guess I took him to the doctor early on for this illness.

Last night, was rough, to say the least (I will be drinking coffee all day). My child who loves his sleep, never went to bed last night, not even for one minute. We called the doctor late to get more tips on getting his fever to break. Tylenol would not get it below 103. His poor eyes were rolling back in his head. We started to worry. Now he is on Tylenol and Motrin, but throws up most of the first doses. He will not eat. The medicine is nasty and he is refusing it, so I am forcing it. But, hey, we are glad he is refusing this morning, because last night he didn't have any life in him to refuse. He is drinking Pedialyte, thankfully.

Current fever is 101, which is much better than the 103 - 104 he has constantly had. This morning's antibiotic and Tylenol has been in his tummy for 40 minutes. He ate 2 crackers. I pray he is turning a corner. Feel free to pray with me. I'd appreciate it. It's hard to see your child look and act lifeless.

Poor baby's 2nd birthday is tomorrow. I already canceled the family visitors. I already have cake and food ordered, plus decorations ready to be hung. It was going to be a small party, but, none the less, a celebration of Jax.

Allergy Field Trip

I went on Noah's 1st grade field trip to Sweetberry Farms last Friday.

He and I have had allergy issues ever since. It's that time of the year.

Not a butterfly kinda guy...

Our yard is covered in migrating butterflies, not that Jax cares.

"Help! It's on me."
Scary dinosaur didn't work...
Tried to blow him away...also, did not work.

Something Jax must have injured this guy because he was very content hanging out with us.

WW - Relax

Last Sunday we were all exhausted from all the weekend fun, so we enjoyed a day of 'nothing'.

....I'm already in need of another day of nothing.

Halloween

This Halloween we had our annual trick-or-treating hayride (last year's here). Our neighborhood is part of the Texas Hill Country, so the kids legs need some help making it door to door. So, we all gather at one house (this year it was ours) for a picnic style dinner, and then one adult per household heads back home to pass out their candy. After eating/socializing, the rest of the group loads onto the trailers (3 this year). The kids love trick-or-treating in the large group. Jax loved it during the first 5 or so houses and then we moved him into my SUV that was pulling the large trailer. He enjoyed the warmth of the heated car and the movie that was playing. After trick-or-treating the neighborhood has a post-party where adults and kids alike enjoy themselves. This year's Halloween party worked out for perfect timing of the UT game, thanks to the DVR.

Eating his pizza
Load them up

Jax's first-ever trick-or-treat house - The Angerame's
Ms. Lisa hooked him up with some yummy m&m's
Hudson checking out his loot, rather than watching where he's walking
Dino Jax now in the comfort of the car
Hercules

I didn't get many pictures this year, Hudson and Noah were all over the place and moving fast door-to-door with friends. They had a lot of fun!
Now, onto the true holidays...bring on Thanksgiving & Christmas!

Pre-Halloween

Friday night, we went to a fun Halloween party over at our friends, The Trinkles, house. Adults and kids alike had a great time! Thanks for having us over!!

During the Halloween party, the kids sang Happy Birthday to Jax, who is short a couple of weeks of turning 2 years old. My friend, Candice, was having a hard time handling the thought we weren't throwing him a big party this year...so she brought the cupcakes and got everyone singing. It was so cute watching him blow out his two candles...the first one with air out of his mouth and I think the second one went out from air from his nose. :)

Our house is ready for trick-or-treaters

Ruen boys are ready to party!

Why is everyone singing and looking at me?!?!
That second candle was blown out by his nose! Ouch.
I love candy-corn!
But, I REALLY LOVE cupcakes!
Thanks Candice for the birthday cupcakes/song!

Saturday, the boys worked hard carving their pumpkins:

I wonder what's in there...

We made yummy ghost cookies

My punkin kept stealing the pumpkins
